Alex Westerband, M.D., FACS, is a board-certified vascular surgeon who has joined Northwest Allied Physicians.

Dr. Westerband has been a vascular surgeon in Tucson for 11 years. He specializes in vascular diseases, with particular interest in vascular research, a release said.

Dr. Westerband has a focused approach on peripheral arterial interventions and the problem of myointimal hyperplasia, carotid interventions for stroke prevention, and treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms. In addition of being certified as a vascular surgeon, Dr. Westerband is also a certified general surgeon. "He's a trusted surgeon throughout the community and medical profession," the release said.

Born in Cap-Haitien, Dr. Westerband came to the U.S. as a graduate of the State University of Haiti and the University of Louis Pasteur of Strasbourg, France. His internship and residency was completed at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York before transferring to Case Western Reserve University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Westerband completed his residency in general surgery, and was accepted as a fellow in vascular surgery at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center.

Dr. Westerband has offices at 1521 Tangerine Road, Suite 123 and 2055 W. Hospital Drive, Suite 205. He is accepting new patients at 901-6230.

Dr. Westerband is a member of the Oro Valley Hospital and Northwest Medical Center medical staffs, and will maintain privileges at other facilities throughout Tucson.
