Don Boorse/Special to The Explorer, Crews for prime contractor Sundt-Kiewit Joint Partners and its pipe-placing subcontractor, Don Kelley Construction, are laying large-diameter - most of it up to 72 inches - pipe between the Ina Road and Roger Road wastewater treatment plants on the west side of Interstate 10. Laying of pipe along the five-mile project is approaching the halfway point, ahead of schedule and under budget, according to the Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department. When it's finished, and in conjunction with other projects, the pipeline is expected to result in greater efficiencies and capacity, and cleaner water released into the Santa Cruz River.
