A free event for employers to connect with job seekers 50 and over is being held this Thursday, April 22, in Oro Valley's Sun City Vistoso.
The Oro Valley Mature Worker open house runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Sun City Vistoso Association Vistoso Center, located at 1565 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd.
The Oro Valley Mature Worker Connection stems from an initiative led by Pima Council on Aging in partnership with local governmental and educational organizations.
More than five years ago, Pima Council on Aging started the local movement to create the first free local job service program for job seekers age 50-plus. It offers a way "to link skilled job seekers with community-based employers from all sectors."
"Hiring mature workers just makes good business sense to local employers," said Roger Forrester, administrator of the Mature Worker Connection at Pima Council on Aging.
Mature workers need to learn "how to navigate the complexities of the current job market and connect with appropriate job placement," a release said. There is no cost to the job seeker.
Forrester met with Oro Valley civic, business and governmental leaders from the Town of Oro Valley, the Sun City Vistoso Foundation, Northern Pima County Chamber of Commerce and Pima Community College to organize the Oro Valley Mature Worker Connection initiative.
Thursday's open house is officially sponsored by CareMore.
