Oregano’s Pizza Bistro opened the doors to a second Tucson location on March 27 on the Northwest side.

The new facility is located at 100 W. Orange Grove Rd.

Oregano’s serves pizzas, salads, pastas and sandwiches.

The new restaurant, open daily between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m., is part of the Phoenix-based chain that has locations throughout Arizona, with an estimated 800 employees.

Tucson’s first Oregano’s was opened at 4900 E. Speedway.

Gary Tarr said finding a location in the Northwest became a priority.

“This market has been requesting an Oregano’s for some time, and we think it’s a great fit for family-oriented communities like you have in North Tucson,” he said. “It’s a natural fit for us to serve value-oriented food and good customer service in strong communities like those in North Tucson.”

The new restaurant has an estimated 120 employees.

While the Orange Grove location just recently opened, word has obviously spread fast, with a full crowd coming in for dinner and lunch.

The menu centers on Italian food with a wide range of selections in pizza and pasta.

A pizza can be made to order, with customers having a choice between thin, or thick crust. But, as the waiter pointed out, if a thick crust is the order of the day, remember it takes at least 40 minutes to cook.

Thin-crust pizzas work well for lunchtime, with a wide variety of toppings.

Those not in the mood for pizza have plenty of other choices between salads, sandwiches and large plates of pasta.

When it comes to pasta, Oregano’s not only makes sure the customer gets a large portion, but they also offer a wide variety of choices.

While offering some traditional favorites, many of the pasta selections pack a punch with the addition of chipotle seasoning.

One favorite is the “Big Rig Pasta,” which is a bowl of rigatoni pasta covered in a tomato-chipotle cream sauce, chopped basil and diced roma tomatoes.

Another selection is “The Lady is a Scampi,” which consists of bunches of shrimp mixed with corkscrew pasta, diced tomatoes, fresh cilantro, imported Parmesan and fresh garlic, and covered in a chipotle sauce.

Looking for a lot of spice? Oregano’s offers the “El Diablo Shrimp Pasta Plate.” This is deemed one of the spiciest dishes on the menu, with shrimp in a special chipotle cream sauce and mixed with a unique fettuccine Rigate pasta.
