The Northern Pima County Chamber of Commerce has a new president and chief executive officer.
Dave Perry, a career newspaperman who was publisher and editor of The Explorer for the three years ended Dec. 31, was named to the chamber position last week. He began his service Tuesday, March 29.
“I’m grateful to the board of directors for its confidence in me, and I’m terrifically excited about this new opportunity,” Perry said.
J.R. Johnson, chairman of the NPCCC board of directors, said he and the board believe Perry “brings a certain passion and commitment to the development of the Northern Pima County Chamber of Commerce, and to enhancing its relationships with its members and the community.
“We’re grateful he accepted the position,” Johnson added.
Perry worked as a reporter, editor and publisher at Wyoming newspapers for nearly 29 years, including 11-1/2 years as publisher and editor of the five-day daily Rawlins, Wyo., Daily Times. In Rawlins, he served as volunteer chairman of the Rawlins Carbon County Chamber of Commerce, and was a leader in the project to open a community-owned clothing store in a largely vacant downtown.
He moved to Arizona in 2007, and was named publisher and editor of The Explorer, a 45,000-copy free distribution weekly newspaper in Northwest Tucson, in December 2007.
Perry and his wife Lisa live in Oro Valley.
Perry succeeds Ramon Gaanderse, who left the position in February 2011.
The Northern Pima County Chamber of Commerce serves more than 500 members with education, networking, public representation, information and outreach services. Its stated mission is to promote a business environment in Northern Pima County that “enhances economic vitality and improves the quality of life for all.”
