No intention to merge chambers, both boards assert

Executive committees from the Northwest's two chambers of commerce met in February to "promote business networking opportunities for members of both chambers during these tough economic times," releases from each said.

There is "no intention to merge the two chambers," the Marana and Northern Pima County chambers asserted in e-mail distributions to their members last week.

Both chambers are sending surveys to members, inquiring if there is value in joint mixers for the two organizations.

Both have agreed to help sponsor YMCA Leadership forums in during 2010.


Rios named exec director at Splendido

Tom Rios has been promoted to executive director of Splendido, the continuing care retirement community in Oro Valley.

Rios had most recently been Splendido's director of accounting. 

Rios will work with managers and staff "to further define Splendido's mission and strategic goals and to oversee all operations," a release said. He has been with Splendido since 2006, and was one of the lead executives who helped open the community to the public that year.

"We look forward to Tom serving as Splendido's executive director," said David Kane, vice president of senior living at Mather LifeWays, one of Splendido's two operating partners. "Not only does Tom know the community well, but he is also an inspirational leader who understands and embraces our core philosophy of creating ways for older adults to age well."

Rios brings more than 15 years of financial and management expertise to his new role at Splendido. As a controller at Tucson Newspapers, he was responsible for preparing and analyzing financial reports and statements for the newspaper publisher. He has also held senior accounting positions at maintenance services organization Fluor Corporation.

Rios received his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Arizona. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants.
