Four students have received 2014 Steve Engle Memorial / Greater Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce scholarships.
This year’s recipients are Justin Arnold, a nursing student at Pima Community College; Brianna Volpe, student body president at Mountain View High School; Alexander Yee, the 5th-ranked student at Marana High School; and Ryan Klee, a top graduate at Pusch Ridge Christian Academy.
All four plan to continue their studies at the University of Arizona. Klee intends to earn a degree in political science, then go to law school. Arnold wants to earn master’s and doctoral degrees in nursing, and become a nurse practitioner. Volpe aspires to become a high school math teacher. Yee is an aspiring researcher who plans to become an astrophysicist.
The presentations were made at a June 26 breakfast at the Oro Valley Country Club before an audience of nearly 60 guests.
Steve Engle was an Oro Valley founding father who served as the town’s mayor for many years. As mayor, Steve personally funded college scholarships for needy students. The Chamber took up the cause after Steve passed away.
“We’re so proud of and impressed by these outstanding students,” said Dave Perry, president / CEO of the Chamber. “It’s our honor to help them along the way.”
