Three Northwest high school seniors have been presented Steve Engle Scholarships by the Northern Pima County Chamber of Commerce.
Elizabeth Mumma of Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, Madison Richards of Marana High School and Mikayla Gilbert of Ironwood Ridge High School were each presented one-time awards of $2,000. Each young woman plans to continue her education in Arizona.
Awards were presented by NPCCC board chair-elect J.R. Johnson and scholarship chairman Tom Pitzer at the chamber's April breakfast, held at The Gallery restaurant and golf club on Dove Mountain.
The scholarships are in memory of E.S. "Steve" Engle, one of the founders of and a former mayor of Oro Valley.
Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market and Wal-Mart Superstore sponsored the morning. Neighborhood Market store manager Carlos Lomeli presented a backpack to each student filled with school supplies, and both stores also contributed to the scholarship fund.
The chamber raises funds for the scholarships with its annual golf tournament, to be played this year on Friday, June 4, at the Oro Valley Country Club. Fifteen foursomes remain; people should register through the chamber by this Friday, May 14.
