Specials on pet adoptions this weekend at stores

A pet adoption event is being held at PetSmart locations in greater Tucson this Friday through Sunday, Sept. 11-13.

The events, in conjunction with the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, are slated for stores at Wetmore and Oracle and at Thornydale and Orange Grove, with a special extravaganza at the Oro Valley PetSmart, 10625 N. Oracle Rd. The greatest variety of adoptable pets is planned for the Oro Valley location.

Every cat and dog adoption this weekend includes a microchip, up-to-date vaccinations, sterilization surgery, and a free vet visit from the vet of the adopter's choice, a release said. Recipients also get The Hill's Guide for Lifelong Health, $7 off a bag of Hill's dog or cat food, a coupon for a free sample of the new Science Diet® Dog Treats, and a "Welcome to Pet Parenthood Guide" that includes information on caring for pets plus savings on products and services.

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona takes in nearly 13,000 animals that go homeless every year.

"We encourage people to come out and visit with the wonderful dogs and cats eagerly awaiting a loving home and a second chance at a new life," said Sheena Stewart, community relations manager. "So many of our four-legged friends are waiting in shelters to give unconditional love and companionship. Those who are considering adoption have a great chance of finding the right pet for their living situation at this event."
