OV Hospital surgeon earns recognition

A Northwest surgeon has been initiated as a fellow into the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Sarah J. Lee, M.D., who practices at Oro Valley Hospital, was one of 1,259 initiates at the college's 95th annual Clinical Congress in Chicago.

Dr. Lee received a medical degree in 2001 from the University of Southern California. She attained board certification from the American Board of Surgery in 2008. Lee has "a strong professional interest" in advanced laparoscopy and bariatrics, and holds memberships in other professional societies.

To become a fellow in the American College of Surgeons, a physician must have advanced training in recognized surgical specialties; must be certified by a surgical specialty board; and must demonstrate ethical fitness and professional proficiency, a release said.

Real estate broker raises funds for Make-A-Wish foundation

An area real estate broker held a fund-raiser on his 50th birthday that helped generate $25,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation Arizona chapter.

Bob Zachmeier, broker / owner of Win3 Realty, helped raise enough funds to grant the wishes of six children with life-threatening medical conditions in Arizona.

In addition to the fund-raiser, he also donated $100 to the foundation for each of the 300 bank-owned homes he sold in 2009. Zachmeier said he was trying to "turn something bad into something good," and convinced colleagues in the real estate industry to make a similar pledge.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions "to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy," a release said.
