Marana Town Manager Gilbert Davidson has received the Credentialed Manager designation from International City/County Management Association, the premier local government leadership and management organization. Davidson is one of 1,200 local government management professionals credentialed through the ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program and one of only 32 in Arizona.

To receive the prestigious credential, a member must have significant experience as a senior management executive in local government, have earned a degree, preferably in public administration or a related field, and demonstrated a commitment to high standards of integrity and to lifelong learning and professional development. Successful candidates must also complete 40 hours of continuing education annually and submit a professional development plan to an ICMA peer review board.

Davidson has been Marana’s manager since July 2008. He started as the Town’s deputy manager in June 2005 after serving as city manager in his hometown of Willcox for three years.

He serves on the host committee for the 2012 ICMA National Conference, which is being held in Phoenix. Davidson begins his duties as president of the Arizona City/County Management Association next month. He is the first president from Marana in the organization’s 57-year history.

Davidson is on the board of directors for Arizona Town Hall, the Arizona City/County Management Association and the UA Alumni Association. He is on advisory boards for the Joan & David Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics at Arizona State University and the UA’s BIO5 Institute.

ICMA’s mission is to create excellence in local governance by developing and advocating professional management of local government worldwide. ICMA provides member support to more than 9,000 city, town and county experts and other individuals throughout the world.
