Sargent Aerospace and Defense has purchased the former Sparkletts distribution center in Marana, allowing Sargent to expand its Northwest operation, according to a release from broker CB Richard Ellis.
Sargent, a subsidiary of Dover Corporation's industrial products segment, purchased the 18,800-square-foot Sparkletts Water warehouse building at 5600 W. Coca Cola Place in Marana. The listed sale price was $1.84 million.
Sparkletts Water has leased a 12,000-square-foot single-tenant, industrial building at 2595 N. Fairview Ave., nine miles south of its current location. The 10-year lease was entered with Fairview Grant LLC of Tucson.
"This is a win-win for both companies, as well as the marketplace," said Bruce A. Suppes of CBRE's Tucson office. "Sargent can remain in the Tucson area and expand and upgrade its existing facility, while Sparkletts has found a more central distribution point, one better suited for the scope and scale of its operation. Both businesses provide valuable jobs and services that benefit the community."
Sargent, which has a 60,000-square-foot plant at 5675 W. Burlingame in Marana, plans to demolish the Sparkletts warehouse, located on an adjoining lot, and build a new 70,000-square-foot facility.
From that enlarged campus, Sargent plans "to implement an engineering design and qualification lab center of excellence, while incorporating operational improvements and environmentally responsible building elements," a release said. The increased capacity is required to support the growth of key programs for the U.S. Navy and Air Force, and the commercial aircraft industry.
