To help “Build Business and Community Relationships,” the Marana Chamber of Commerce will partner with a non-profit organization within the community to help promote awareness, as well as the community coming together to support each other.

In January, we will be hosting our annual Bowling Tournament at Golden Pin Lanes, 1010 W. Miracle Mile Rd.

The Marana Chamber wanted to help Marana Unified School District’s Teenage Parent Program (TAPP).

The primary purpose of TAPP is to offer services and support to pregnant and parenting students leading to the ultimate goal of graduation. The program is open to all district students and is housed on the Marana High School campus.

The TAPP program is comprehensive in nature, offering many components designed specifically for the teens it benefits. There are currently four major components of TAPP; education- prenatal care/parenting/child care skills, health care, which includes well baby care through education along with any additional assistance that may be needed for the student’s situation such as mental health assistance for both individual and group counseling. WIC is also provided on site once a month along with child care, where children between the ages of two weeks old, and four are enrolled in the child care center, which provides developmentally appropriate activities, toys, while the student parent attends required courses and case management. The specific needs of each student are identified as well as a plan of service.

TAPP Coordinator, Peggy Korete, works closely with all the students involved with the program; “I work constantly at making sure they are not missing school unless they really need to tend to ill children,” she said.

Incentive to the program is to assist with daily needs, providing diapers, wipes, childcare, and other necessities. These items are only received if the student is at school each day. Diapers are provided to the students each week.

The Marana Chamber is beginning to start a collection for the diapers, sizes from newborn to pull-ups for toddlers; or baby wipes, little swimmers, etc.

If you would like to make a contribution, you may drop it off at our office 13881 N Casa Grande Highway, Marana, AZ 85653. We will be collecting through 12:00 (noon) on January 27.
