Raindrops were not about to deter Nini Falconer, Marnie Leach and Betty Pearce from walking down the slight incline of the "beach access" into the mammoth outdoor pool at La Hacienda Club in SaddleBrooke Ranch.
"We've waited two years for this," said Falconer, who is among the original SaddleBrooke Ranch residents.
Based on first reactions, residents of the Robson Communities location just north of Oracle Junction are getting what they wanted.
The 40,000-square-foot, $13 million facility, done with the help of SHJ Studio and Kimberly Timmons Interiors, has:
• an indoor lap pool with handicap accessibility;
• a complex of outside swimming pools, with lanes for laps, a curvy outdoor pool with beach access, a resistance channel and a nearby whirlpool;
• a bistro, serving up coffee drinks, fruit smoothies, salads, sandwiches, pizza and wine, with both indoor and outdoor seating;
• a billiards room, with big-screen TV;
• fitness rooms that include a row of stationary cycles for spinning classes, lines of treadmills, exercise bikes and stair-climbing equipment with personal TVs and iPod capability, resistance machines and free weights. There is dedicated space for yoga, Pilates and aerobics, with professional trainers and instructors available;
• men's and women's locker rooms with steam baths;
• a tennis complex with a stadium court, as well as four pickleball courts;
• a meditation room, the Espirito de Vida, with water gently flowing down one wall;
• a full-service spa, the Esperanza Spa, with a lounge, three treatment rooms for massage therapy and facials, a salon and a barber shop;
• a room for continuing education, a casino-style gaming venue and an arts and crafts room with one wall of windows yielding close-up views of SaddleBrooke Ranch's lake and golf course, and more distant vistas of the undeveloped Tortolitas.
Access to La Hacienda Club is part of the dues paid by residents at SaddleBrooke Ranch, which numbers 47 closed home sales, 22 under construction and projected build-out to 5,800 homes. Guests can pay for additional services within the facility. A joint use agreement with SaddleBrooke residents is pending, according to a Robson spokeswoman.
A swelling crowd waited out the front door before the "soft" opening event. "Which way's the pool?" one asked upon entry. They could have asked Ed Robson, the man behind the Robson properties, who greeted guests in the lobby, a day after his 80th birthday.
