For the unfamiliar passerby, Planet Beach might be perceived as just another tanning salon, while in fact, it has evolved into far more than that in just one year.

Tina Adams, a spokesperson for Planet Beach’s Oro Valley location, is looking to spread the word that tanning is only one of a handful of services now offered to customers.

“It’s not a tanning salon anymore, and there is a misconception that it is,” she said. “We want to lay that misconception to rest. We are a spa.”

While Planet Beach does offer tanning options, the wide array of additional services available no doubt qualifies it as a spa- one that is unique and cost-friendly.

For customers looking for the latest and greatest in rejuvenation and relaxation services, Planet Beach offers hydro massages, hydro-derma fusion, red light therapy, CyberRelax massage chairs, Therasage massages, luminous facials, and even teeth whitening.

Michelle Amado, a repeat customer, said she frequently travels from Ft. Lowell and Alvernon to the Oro Valley Planet Beach location due to the quality of customer service she receives and the variety of options available.

“It’s a spa like no other in town,” she said. “The variety of treatments available in one place is quite unique, and it’s so cost-effective compared to what you will pay elsewhere. They always accommodate me here.”

Adams highlighted some of the benefits of the different services offered, including joint pain relief, wrinkle reduction, acne reduction, improved skin texture and coloration, muscle tension relief, weight loss, and more.

There is a sense of relaxation here,” said Adams. “People come in two or three times a week. There is an overall sense of well-being. When you take care of yourself, life seems to be a little easier to deal with.”

Amado said she has lost 15 pounds since she began using the “hydration station,” the company’s hydro-derma fusion machine.

The hydration station combines 118-degree heat with nutrient rich dense steam, which not only helps moisturize and heal skin, but burns calories while doing it.

“You’ll burn about 350 calories in a 30-minute session,” said Adams, who lost eight pounds in one week using the machine. Adams said they are happy to let potential customers try the machine out for free.

Adams is also looking to clear up misconceptions about the location’s owner, Carline Franklin.

“There’s this idea that as an African-American, she doesn’t know anything about tanning, but it’s not just tanning here,” said Adams. “Carline is all about well-being from head to toe, and helping clients relax. That is why she bought it.”

The Oro Valley Planet Beach celebrated its one-year anniversary on Feb. 21 with a Mardi Gras party, and was fortunate enough to have restaurants in the complex donate food.

Planet Beach locations will be offering extended spring hours, open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

Oro Valley Planet Beach is located at 12112 N. Rancho Vistoso Blvd.
