On April 28, the City of Tucson will be turned into a virtual taco-topia with more than 30 amateur and professional competitors battling for $5,000 cash and bragging rights over the title “Grand Champion Taco” at the first Tucson Taco Festival at Rillito Downs. Produced by Affordable Food Festivals, LLC, this event will be modeled after the Arizona Taco Festival in Scottsdale, which attracts more than 15,000 people.

Organizers expect more than 25,000 tacos will be sold. Meanwhile, a full festival entertains attendees.

Inside the Tequila Expo, more than 30 brands will pour samples of more than 100 tequilas. At noon, 10 local bartenders will set up inside this tent and begin the Margarita Challenge Mix-Off, with three celebrity judges ready to crown Best Marg.

Those looking for respite from the crowds can purchase a $100 ticket into the VIP Tent, where open bar and catered food inside the tent await. VIP’s also enjoy a separate lineless entrance and wristbands into the Tequila Expo.

A list of initial taco teams will be released in early March.

The Tucson Taco Festival takes place on April 28 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Rillito Downs, located at 4502 N. 1st Ave., Tucson, AZ 85718.

General Admission is $10, the Tequila Expo is $10, VIP Ticket are $100. Samples of competition tacos are $2 each.

Tickets are available online at www.TucsonTacoFestival.com.
