What's Up UA? - All Clear Following Incident on Campus

The University of Arizona community is relieved that as of late this evening, we have an all-clear and nobody was hurt during an incident on our campus this afternoon and early evening. We wish to thank all our employees and students for their cooperation and we are happy that they are all safe and with family and friends.

A call came through the 911 system to the University of Arizona Police Department at 4:52 p.m. indicating that there was a male carrying a rifle on the UA campus and that there had been a shooting in the Administration Building. The UA Police Department and Tucson Police Department responded immediately and secured the area. The UA’s UAlert communications system was used to warn the UA community away from the area.

After an initial investigation, all personnel were safely evacuated from the Administration Building and police officers conducted an intensive floor-by-floor and room-by-room search. The Tucson Bomb Squad and the Pima County Regional Bomb Squad assisted with the search of the Administration Building to ensure there were no explosive devices. No gunman or explosives were found during the search, nor any evidence of a shooting. The buildings have been cleared and the campus has resumed normal operations.

Great credit is owed to the immediate response and cooperative efforts of the UA Police Department and the Tucson Police Department as well as the UA’s Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the UA community.

At this time the investigation is ongoing.
