The Hermitage No-Kill Cat Shelter is pleased to announce the arrival of new Cat Care Manager, Florence Clark. Ms. Clark brings over 30 years of professional veterinary experience, with particular expertise in emergency and critical care at high volume, specialty clinics in New York, Boston and Los Angeles. In addition, Florence recently served as Medical Director for the MSPCA shelter at Angell Memorial Hospital.
"The Hermitage Cat Shelter is a first-class organization," said Joe Sprague, Executive Director. "The role of Cat Care Manager is critical to the success and on-going operation of the shelter. I am confident that Florence is the perfect individual for this position and I look forward to all she has to contribute."
Fortunately, it's become more common for veterinary schools to treat Shelter Medicine as a specialty and incorporate it into their coursework.
"Having been involved in progressive veterinary medicine for so long, I have observed a shift in the profession related to the care of shelter pets," Ms. Clark said. "There was a period of time where members of the veterinary community viewed the treatment of shelter animals differently than that of owned pets. However, there is a growing shift in perception much to the benefit of the animals in our care."
"I have been fortunate enough to be instrumental in the development of specialty care among the veterinary technician community, over the years. I am excited and optimistic that I can help advance the same change towards shelter medicine as well," Clark added.
Ms. Clark resides in Tucson with her two daughters, 5 cats (all special needs) and son-in-law.
The Hermitage Cat Shelter is a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization and long-term sanctuary supported entirely by donations and dedicated to the shelter, protection, and care of homeless cats, especially those that are often not considered adoptable by other organizations.
