PACC

Pima Animal Care Center is thrilled to announce that we've been selected to join an elite group of 50 shelters across the country in competing for a total of $600,000 in prize grants.

It's not going to be easy so we're going to need your help to meet our goals in the 2014 ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) Rachael Ray $100K Challenge.

At a minimum, we have to save 300 more cats and dogs during the months of June, July and August than we did over those same months last year. If we do that, it means a guaranteed $5,000 that we can put to critical shelter needs.

Last year, during those three months, we saved 3,600 pets.

But we decided to be ambitious and go for the big prizes - up to $100,000 - for the shelter that achieves the greatest increase in lives saved. Those resources would help us treat more animals with medical needs and help increase our spay/neuter capacity.

We've set our goal at 5,000 pets adopted from June through August. During the entire year of 2013, we saved 12,400 animals, so you can see what a record-breaking summer we'll need to accomplish that goal.

But the community inspired us to think big. You've helped us grow our live release rate from 55 percent two years ago to 75 percent so far this fiscal year.

We can't help but believe the energy, interest and passion you've shown so far will carry us through.

And considering that there are more than 380,000 households in Pima County, we have to think there is capacity to help us get another 1,400 pets in home than we did last summer.

Watch our website and Facebook pages for upcoming adoption special and for ways to help. And thank you for your support so far in helping us with our goals.
