If it’s time for your pet’s distemper, parvo and rabies vaccinations, come on down to Pima Animal Care Center on May 21 for a free vaccine and wellness clinic!

The first 100 patrons between 9 a.m. and noon will receive diagnostic testing and vaccines to keep their pets healthy, thanks to grant funding from Banfield Charitable Foundation. Volunteers from Banfield Pet Hospital and PetSmart will participate as part of an annual day of community service.

The pet services offered at no charge to patrons include:

•    Heartworm testing

•    Preventive flea and tick treatment

•    A six-month supply of a heartguard preventive product

•    Distemper/parvovirus vaccine (DHPP)

•    Rabies vaccine

While you can’t put a price on health, we can say patrons will receive more than $200 worth of services – free!  Services will be provided on a first come, first served basis.

“Not only is a rabies vaccine required by law, it protects your pet against a fatal disease that can infect your human family members, too,” said Dr. Jen Wilcox, the shelter veterinarian at Pima Animal Care Center. “And parvo is an extremely common – but preventable – virus that leads to the death of thousands of puppies in our community each year. We are very grateful for Banfield’s assistance in protecting our community’s pets.”

Banfield volunteers will also paint the administrative trailer, put new fabric on our dog beds and wash our dogs so they’re ready for their new homes.

As our community’s only open-admission shelter, Pima Animal Care never turns away any pet coming to our doors. Any other organizations interested in helping with our lifesaving work should contact Development Director Karen Hollish at 243-5984 or Volunteer Coordinator Andrew Stocker at 243-5920.
