Pima Animal Care Center dog

Eighteen months ago, Pima Animal Care Center began a transformative journey to save more lives.

Now, as one of 50 shelters in the nation competing to find more homes for pets than ever before, we’ll need all of those energies – and your help – to find homes for 5,000 pets by Aug. 31. It could mean big resources, with a grand prize of $100,000!

Our Kickoff Fiesta is not only free, but will be more fun than a passel of kittens playing water polo in a kitchen sink. And believe us, that’s fun! Here’s the rundown:

  • 6 – 8 a.m.: Shake your tail feathers for shelter pets with Ms. Fit Zumba instructors and Afro-Caribbean percussionist Richard Noel (who is the bomb-diggety, by the way)! With pets often playing a role in a healthy lifestyle, special thanks to Tucson Medical Center for sponsoring the Zumbathon!
  •  8 – 10 a.m.: We’re hosting a community dog walk and cat cuddle to give our pets a little fresh air and people time with a jaunt around the scenic lake behind our Center. Sign up now (Andrew.stocker@pima.gov)! It’s always a great time!
  • 10 – 10:30 a.m.: Come on down for our pet pep rally! Bring your own pompoms and get ready for the premiere of our new video, featuring your awesome Pima Animal Care Center volunteers and one of our waggy alums!
  • 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.: What’s a fiesta without mariachi and folklorico entertainment? Better yet, it features our very own Shelter Manager, Jose Ocaño!

We’ll have food trucks, vendors, a jumping castle, and a staff member rocking a life-sized dog costume. What more could you want? Oh. That’s right. FREE adoptions! See you soon!

As our community’s only open-admission shelter, we care for about 24,000 pets annually, taking in every lost, abandoned or ailing pet that comes to our doors. We don’t turn away any pet in need. For more information, please visit www.pima.gov/animalcare.
