I am a 36-year-old mother of two, soon to be three boys. My oldest is 13 and my youngest, at the moment, is 3. I work full time and am currently enrolled at Pima Community College in the nursing program.

Any day now I am due to deliver my third son. I have so many mixed feelings about having three children.

I am worried about the effects on my other children. Will anyone feel left out? I know I will find a way to do it but these things weigh heavy on my mind. I have read plenty about having three children, and my feelings are completely normal. But, you can’t help but wonder.

Most people don’t consider 36 old, but 36 and pregnant you are considered advanced maternal age. Kind of makes me wonder what about these stars that have babies after 40 and even into their 50s? What are they considered?

Being advanced maternal age came with a lot of reading and scares throughout this pregnancy. I ended up getting an amniocentesis done only to find out my baby boy is perfectly healthy.

I worry a lot about the delivery and am hoping it comes sooner rather than later, my first son came on his due date, but I needed to be induced to low amniotic fluid, my second son came a month early and I had to be induced because he went into fetal distress. This one is due Dec. 5, however I am hoping any day now and already have been at the women’s center three times in the past 10 days.

Getting sent home is not only frustrating, it is embarrassing. I didn’t want to be that person that goes in a million times only to be sent home. Thank goodness the nurses and doctors at the Women’s Center are so nice they say come in whenever you feel the need. All in all we are ready for this new chapter in our lives. We are all excited and yes, we have our concerns and anxieties regarding another addition we wouldn’t have it any other way. Now, just a waiting game to see when this new man in my life is going to show his face and grip my heart like my other two, have.

(Editor’s Note: Alisha gave birth to Liam early Friday morning. Liam is six pounds, 11 ounces. Mother and baby are doing fine.)
