Lucky week 13! I am looking back on this week with one main perspective: optimism for my future. Primarily meaning, it can only go up from here.

This week started out with gusto. My knee felt great and I was getting the itch to run. My daughters (3 and 5 years old) were begging to go run with me, which made me feel extremely happy. They were so cute getting ready in their “exercising clothes” and strutting around the house as if expert marathoners. They each ran an entire lap nonstop(!), then sat on the sidelines cheering Mommy on. Soon after our run though, that nagging feeling in my knee returned.

I returned to the gym the next day and spent my cardio time on the recumbent bike, as it is much less painful on my knee. The issue is not so much the pain, which is tolerable; it is the fear that I will do something to really mess it up. After talking with Steve and Mike, I’ve decided to go ahead and get the much-dreaded MRI, if nothing else than to ease my mind that it is tendonitis or something relatively benign that, with rest, will soon heal on its own and leave me alone!

The week came to a glaring pinnacle on Tuesday, after my workout with Steve. I decided a new pair of workout pants were in order and, as I was checking out, the cashier asked, “When are you due? Is it another girl?” Shocked, I simply replied, “No,” to which she countered, “Oh great! A boy!” If there was ever a greater motivator to get over this knee thing and kick things up, I don’t know what it is!

Things I learned this week: 1) Sometimes you have to give in. Maybe it’s a mental thing you need to get over, or maybe it truly is physical, but you owe it to yourself to find the root problem. 2) Use bad experiences as motivational opportunities…never again will that happen!
