nown for its top-notch learning programs from Sesame Street to NOVA, PBS has long been the go-to resource for quality educational media in America. With schools taking the brunt of budget cuts everywhere, public resources such as PBS’s programs have become ever more valuable in the classroom — a fact that has not gone unrecognized by Arizona Public Media, a non-profit which strives for collaborative conversation in the Southern Arizona community.

Accordingly, AZPM has teamed up with KAET 8/Phoenix in order to present PBS LearningMedia to all students and teachers across the state.

PBS LearningMedia provides schools with online videos, digital resources and lesson plans, all for free and all in a single database, searchable by age and by subject matter.

The philosophy behind PBS’s new initiative is that digital media already plays a huge and inevitable role in the lives of students today. Why not harness this potential to educate and foster participation?

After one year of successful beta-testing in select communities across the country, PBS LearningMedia has now come to Arizona, thanks to a grant from CenturyLink for the training of teachers in use of the program. The program has been specially designed so as to most easily integrate itself into existing school systems, by measuring up to state standards, as well as offering access accounts for both individual students and classrooms. Besides teachers, parents are also encouraged to visit the website to find assistance for at-home work and learning.
