CDO Little League used a late inning rally to stun Arrowhead 16-15 and advance to the championship game of the Arizona 10-11 Little League State Baseball Tournament.
CDO had to battle back from a daunting deficit to earn the win. They led 3-1 heading into the third inning, but Arrowhead exploded for 10 runs, they added another run in the fourth and were up 12-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
That is when CDO began clawing back into the game. CDO plated eight runs in the bottom of the fourth, thanks in part to a Hayden Palmer three-run shot, and suddenly that nine-run deficit was trimmed to just one.
Arrowhead again extended the lead with three runs in the sixth, but in the bottom of the inning, CDO again rallied, and sent the game to extra innings on a three-run home run by Dante Schindler.
CDO won the game in the seventh thanks to a lead-off double by Konnor Hopton. Two batters later he scored.
After early inning troubles, the CDO pitching staff found a groove in the late innings. Jayden Bracey came in relief with two outs in the fourth and pitched the final three-plus innings to earn the win. He scattered just three runs over the final three innings.
CDO will host the winner of Arrowhead and Ahwatukee on Tuesday night at Kreigh Park #1 at 6:30 p.m. If CDO wins they win the state championship, a loss would set up a winner take all game the next night in the double elimination tournament.
