Dollar Xpress is open for business in Oro Valley Marketplace, near GNC and Game Stop on the north side of the Tangerine and Oracle shopping center.

“Everything is a dollar,” said owner Suby Khangura, a native of England who transplanted to greater Tucson in 1989.

Suby gained the inspiration to start Dollar Xpress during a trip to England.

“The economy is so bad there,” she said, yet dollar-concept stores are thriving. “I noticed these stores were actually going into these big box stores” left vacant by financial distress. “Every single one of them is busy. And they’re upscaling.”

Back in the States, the Oro Valley resident researched a way to work while caring for two children. “I decided I’ll just do my own,” she said, and the Oro Valley Marketplace location was “just perfect.”

As it opens, Dollar Xpress is selling jewelry, tools, household goods, toys, toiletries, socks, drinking glasses, baby items, make-up, prepackaged foods, Easter items, party supplies such as gift bags, cards and balloons, and more.

Dollar Xpress occupies 3,500 square feet at 2060 E. Tangerine Road, Suite 102. Store hours are Monday-Saturday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Dollar Xpress will start out with five employees.
