Motorcycle incident

A 20-year-old is in critical condition after a collision on his motorcycle Saturday night. The driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet

Northwest Fire District crews responded to Cortaro Road at Cerius Stav, near Cortaro and I-10 just after 7 p.m. when a motorcyclist collided with a passenger car.

The motorcyclist, in his early 20s was not wearing a helmet and sustained critical, life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. The car involved in the incident was driven by a 71-year-old female who had minor injuries. The female patient was evaluated at the scene by Northwest Fire paramedics and released to her family. The motorcyclist was transported by ground ambulance to the trauma center at UAMC for care.

Eastbound Cortaro Road was closed at Cerius and was expected to remain closed for several hours.

Marana Police were on the scene to conduct the traffic investigation into the cause of the incident.

Northwest Fire District urges all motorcyclists, bicyclist, scooter riders and skateboarders to wear a helmet at all times. Too often, the responses to incidents that involve two wheel transportation and riders without helmets end in critical or fatal injuries.
