This is the scene just after the patient was airlifted to University of Arizona Central Campus trauma center.

Crews used the jaws of life to remove the entire roof to gain access to the patient who was a female in her 60's. She sustained critical life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

The car struck a concrete bridge crossing and landed in the irrigation canal on the east side of I 10 just south of Cortaro.

The occupant was traveling westbound on the frontage road when she drifted off the roadway and crashed. The emergency crew believe the patient may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the accident.
